3 Best Exercises for Healthy Feet
We all want to have healthy feet because they are critical to living a healthy life. Like other parts of the body, our feet are the ones that receive the most wear and tear. This is why it’s important to take proper and extra care of our feet. Daily stretches and regular exercise of your feet and ankles is an excellent and enjoyable way to keep them healthy. These exercises reduce the risk of injury, and can also help to treat and prevent deformities like hammer toes and bunions. Most foot exercises are easy, require very little space, and do not involve any complicated apparatus.
Here are some of the best foot and ankle exercises to help keep your feet healthy:
Calf raises— While standing, keep your feet flat on the floor. Now gently lift your heels by keeping your toes on the floor. Hold this position for a few minutes while it’s pleasant. Repeat this 7-10 times. If you are finding it easy with both feet, try doing it one foot at a time. You may practice this exercise by standing on a curb or the edge of a stair step.
Roll a special roller or a tennis ball under your foot— This is one of the easiest exercises to do. Simply roll a special roller, tennis or golf ball, or just a plastic water bottle under your foot for a few minutes. Gently massage the arches of your feet. You can practice this exercise from a seated position and while standing. Repeat the exercise 5-7 times with each foot.
Toe scrunches— Sit with your feet flat on the floor. Use your toe to pick up towels, marbles, pencils or other small objects. This exercise helps strengthen arches and eases plantar fasciitis.
If you have diabetes, bunions, arthritis, or other foot problems that might disturb your ability to exercise, it is important to consult with your podiatrist first.
